Luna County Criminal Court Cases
Luna County criminal court cases do not all belong to one clerk. The Sixth Judicial District Court at the Luna County Judicial Complex is the county's general-jurisdiction court and principal felony trial court. It also hears criminal appeals from lower courts. The Luna County I Magistrate Court hears misdemeanors, DWI and traffic matters and conducts felony first appearances and preliminary proceedings. A felony arrest may thus create an early Magistrate Court file before prosecution continues under a different District Court number.
Deming Municipal Court is a third, narrow layer. It hears city ordinance violations, traffic matters, DWI and eligible petty misdemeanors, and it has no jury. Its clerk remains the best source for local ordinance cases and city bench warrants because statewide public municipal coverage is limited. The elected county clerk is not the keeper of these criminal case files. Three Luna County Court Dockets
Court level is the first fact to settle before a search. A charge description alone can mislead because a felony may begin in Magistrate Court for a probable-cause or preliminary step, then move to District Court for the filed felony prosecution. Case Lookup coverage has key limits. It does not display filed documents, and municipal results cover only historic domestic-violence and DWI convictions from September 1, 1991. The Sixth District publishes a current-day-plus-six-day schedule for each local court. These dockets answer a narrow question: whether a hearing is listed soon. How a Criminal Case Moves

Each stage can leave a dated docket entry, but the entry title may not explain the whole result. Read the linked order or ask for it. A plea entry does not replace the signed judgment, and a sentencing setting does not prove that sentencing occurred as planned.

Reading Luna County Case Outcomes
Disposition terms answer different questions. A dismissal ends a count without conviction on that count. An acquittal is a not-guilty determination. A conviction follows a plea or verdict and judgment. A deferred sentence can impose conditions while judgment is deferred under New Mexico law, but it should not be treated as automatic expungement. The New Mexico sentencing structure provides statutory context, while the exact signed order controls the case.

Older Luna Cases and Certified Copies
